Here's to Friendship

I'm experimenting with posting a photo to this blog. This photo is one of the first ones I saw when I opened my Pictures folder. Krista and I first became friends 17 years ago when we lived in the least expensive college student housing in the entire city. She's now a wife, mother of two, author (!!), teacher, and neighborhood historian. She's a wonderful person and thankfully, still my friend after all these years.

View Us Live!

We completed a technology update last weekend. We de-commissioned our two desktops. Christian bought a gaming laptop and I got my laptop back from him. My web cam was reconnected and his fancy laptop has a built in web cam. Ready for a live chat? Me too, as soon as I learn how to turn it on!

Captain Christian

Last Friday we enjoyed a lovely 3-hour cruise on Lake Minnetonka with Christian's coworkers. It was the annual fall employee outing. It was a beautiful day, sunny and warm! After enjoying the refreshments, Christian and I visited the upper level of the boat. Christian enjoyed tinkering with the extra set of controls which he assumed were non-functional. That is, until Captain Hank joined us upstairs and informed C he was driving the boat!

Our 15 Seconds of Fame

Last summer we replaced the siding on our house. Actually, Christian and Jim (step-dad) replaced the siding on our house. (And let's not forget Kristine (C's mom), Ken (my dad), and the demolition crew.) As with most DYI (do-it-yourself) home improvement projects, this one took longer than expected and was much more work than anyone ever imagined.

We financed the project with a low-interest loan from the City of Roseville. The non-profit that administers the loan program also employs a construction manager, Paul. He came to our house numerous to provide advice when we were unsure of how to tackle a problem or to reassure me that the siding would not fall off the house in a year. (And it hasn't, whew!)

Anyway, the non-profit asked us if we wanted to be featured in their 2007 annual report. A photographer came to our house and took photos of our family and our home. We got a copy of it in the mail yesterday. Guess what?? We're on front cover! It's a full page photo. C and I are standing in front of the house, and Emily is leaping off the front steps. Check it out at www.gmhchousing.org. It's not updated yet with the 2007 version, but hopefully it will be soon. We are also on page 3.

So, there you go. Our family has been featured in print. Our 15 seconds of fame.

Emily's a Kindergartener

It's hard to believe. Emily is a kindergartener. She attends a wonderful K - 8 school about a mile from our home called Parkview Center School. It's the same building were we attended Early Family Childhood Education classes for years.

Her day starts bright and early. The bus picks her up at the end of our cul-de-sac at 7:10 am. School begins at 7:30 am and ends at 2:00 pm. Monday and Friday she rides the bus home. On Tuesday, Wed, and Thursday, she attends the after-school program. I pick her up after work.

One of her favorite parts of school is art class. At least, that's what we assume because many works of art come home in her school bag. And, she asks us to play art class. She creates a sample project and we are supposed to follow her directions and make it. Her grandparents are being recruited as her art students, as will you if you come and visit!

All for now. I hope to post again soon.
